Christian Maria Brandes (* 1981 in Vechta ), artist name Schlecky Silberstein , is a German author , actor and blogger . He runs the blog Schlecky Silberstein (formerly Spiegel Offline ) and is the head author and performer of the online comedy show Bohemian Browser Ballet .

Life

Christian Brandes grew up in Bremen and after school, Abitur and basic military service, took up a degree in economics in Potsdam , which he broke off after completing his intermediate diploma . He then started working as a copywriter for various advertising agencies, while from 2010 he also ran the Spiegel Offline blog under the new name Schlecky Silberstein , in which he collected curiosities from the Internet. In winter 2011 he renamed the blog Schlecky Silberstein . The name goes back to an anecdote from his grandmother, according to which a Mr. Silberstein in the Warsaw ghetto is said to have regularly written humorous sayings and aphorisms on the walls of houses.

Brandes was a comedy writer for various radio and television programs, including the Neo magazine Royale . He hosted the Schlecky Silberstein Radio Show on the Internet radio station DetectorFM . In June 2015 he published the book I can't eat Wurstzipfel about Spleens at Ullstein Verlag . He also became aware of a job advertisement according to which applicants with previous convictions were given preference.

Since 2016 he has been working as the head author of the Bohemian Browser Ballet format , which was commissioned by the media service funk . Well-known works include Lauf, dicke Sau , Das Arier-Reservat , Degentrification and Masters of Germany . The show sees itself as a "left-green thorn in the ass of the revolutionaries".

In March 2018 Schlecky Silberstein published the book Das Internet muss weg a critical examination of the social media age and advertised with the quote “The Internet is the greatest messing machine of all time”. The book advocates the thesis that the biggest problems of the 21st century - from rising rates of depression to online addiction to the renaissance of nationalism - can be traced back exclusively to the Internet.

After a satirical video on the events in Chemnitz in 2018, Brandes' production company received a visit from AfD MP Frank-Christian Hansel , of which the party posted a video on the Internet. Previously, the Berlin AfD had posted a video about the shooting of the satire, which they believed they could uncover as a fake video - despite existing references in the clip to the satirical character . As a result, Brandes said he received “massive anti-Semitic hate comments ” as well as death threats against him online.

Brandes is married and has one son.
