from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bohemian Browser Ballet (short form: Browser Ballet , BBB ) is a satirical online show. Since June 21, 2016, skits , short films , campaigns, games and picture jokes have been presented on Facebook and YouTube . The show was invented by author and satirist Schlecky Silberstein , who also acts as the host for the Browser Ballet .

The Browser Ballet has been produced by Steinberger Silberstein GmbH since 2018, previously by Turbokultur GmbH. The format is commissioned by the public service provider funk . In addition to Silberstein, the main authors are Christina Schlag and Raphael Selter, both of whom are also directors of Steinberger Silberstein GmbH. In 2019, the Bohemian Browser Ballet was awarded the Grimme Prize in the Children and Youth category.

concept

The core idea of the format is a late night show , on the assumption that television would never have existed. Therefore, the Bohemian Browser Ballet does without moderation, performances by musicians, talk guests and fixed broadcast dates in favor of content that is dedicated to the dynamics and consumption habits of the internet world . On average, the Bohemian Browser Ballet publishes two videos a week at irregular intervals. On Facebook there are also jokes and daily comments on current affairs.

The videos do not follow any content or visual brackets, but are individual self-contained works with changing actors. The spectrum includes classic parodies of existing formats, cinematic skits, fake trailers, building instructions and documentaries. In addition to video content, the Browser Ballet also focuses on interactive content and satirical games.

Viral videos

The Browser Ballet already achieved viral distribution several times with its productions. Videos such as Save the Aryans! , Masters of Germany , Volksfest in Sachsen , Oh Du Ehrliche , Alpha-Kevin at home alone , degentrification and Caught buying toilet paper are among the greatest popular successes of the Browser Ballet.

Guest appearances

The Browser Ballet integrates prominent and public persons into the productions at random intervals. Bela B , Dunja Hayali , Eko Fresh , Tanzverbot , Aische Pervers , Jörg Schüttauf , Bürger Lars Dietrich , Jenny Elvers and Conny Dachs have performed in Browser Ballet, among others .

Games

In addition to video content, the format also focuses on satirical browser games . For the 2017 federal election campaign, the Browser Ballet presented the fighting game Bundesfighter 2 Turbo , in which the player can control the top candidates of the largest parties and compete against each other in the manner of the classic Street Fighter II Turbo . After its release, the game caused a re-evaluation of computer games in connection with freedom of art due to a legal dispute regarding a swastika in the game.

AfD scandal

In September 2018, the Browser-Ballet-Produktion Volksfest in Saxony caused a public and heated discussion with the party Alternative for Germany . After the AfD tried to take action against the publication of the video and put the production company Steinberger Silberstein GmbH under massive pressure, a media conflict arose.

criticism

The Bohemian Browser Ballet came under criticism in social networks because of the satirical contribution “Corona saves the world”. As a result, the press council received around 400 complaints in which the contribution was described, among other things, as inhuman .
