For a long time there was a legal dispute between Wolfgang Fellner's media group “Austria” and Wiener Linien over the installation of the withdrawal boxes within the underground stations. More Today copies are offered for free removal in boxes in the open air (e.g. in pedestrian zones), schools, universities and over 400 bakery branches (Mann, Ströck Brot , Felber, Ankerbrot ). With 387,000 copies distributed free of charge, Today in Vienna has a reach of 35.4 percent and is clearly number one among the tabloids in Vienna, ahead of the Neue Kronen Zeitung with 24.3 percent and the Austrian daily with 22.0 percent reach.

In Vienna the evening edition of the Kronen Zeitung is also distributed free of charge. A connection between Mediaprint and the Dichand family is emphatically denied by both sides. However, Hans Dichand has publicly emphasized several times that he is interested in the newspaper “Heute” and is considering an offer to buy or cooperate.

On December 7, 2012, the reporting of the Heute editors Michner and Höllrigl on an act of violence in Klagenfurt, in which they reported the alleged murderer Harald P. in states “behind the crescent” and “where the buttocks are higher than the prayer, led to a scandal Head ”. After protests, editor-in-chief Christian Nusser apologized for the racist formulations and put those responsible on leave.

Like the Kronen Zeitung and the Austrian daily newspaper, today did not submit to the arbitration of the press council.
