Christian David Lenz (born December 26, 1720 in Köslin ; † August 14, 1798 in Dorpat ) was a German-Baltic clergyman.

Life

Lenz studied theology at the University of Halle . In 1740 he went to Livonia as a private tutor , which was then one of the Russian Baltic provinces. From 1742 he was pastor here in Serben and Drostenhof . From 1749 to 1758 he worked as a pastor in Seßwegen . From 1751 he was also provost of the 2nd Wendens circle.

In 1759 he went to Dorpat , where he was pastor of the German congregation, at the same time assessor of the city consistory and supervisor of the city school. In 1779 he was elected general superintendent of Livonia by the state parliament ; he held this office until his death in 1798.

Lenz was married twice and had several children. The son Friedrich David Lenz also became a clergyman, while the son Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz dropped out of his theology studies and became famous as a poet.
