Joseph Girgensohn
Gustav Ferdinand Joseph Girgensohn (born April 15, jul. / 27. April 1848 greg. In Moscow ; † 14. January 1933 in Berlin light field ) was a German teacher and historian .
Life
Origin and family
Joseph came from a Baltic family and was the son of the physician Julius Girgensohn (1809-1848) and Louise Marie, née Girgensohn (1816-1914).
In 1877 he married Mathilde Müller (1859-1886) in his first marriage in Riga and in his second marriage in 1893 in Wernigerode with Charlotte Schummer (1869-1941). From these marriages there were one daughter and six sons.
Career
Girgensohn attended preschool and from 1857 to 1867 high school. He studied in Dorpat , Berlin and Göttingen from 1867 to 1872 , where a. a. Attended lectures by Georg Waitz and in 1872 due to his dissertation as a Dr. phil. graduated.
He took part in the Franco-German War as a medic . He passed his state examination in Dorpat in 1873 and was a senior teacher at the city high school from 1874 to 1890 and a regular lecturer at the Riga Polytechnic from 1878 to 1890 . Girgensohn was a Russian State Councilor and thus, according to the ranking, belonged to the Russian nobility .
As a result of the Russification of schools in the Baltic provinces , Girgensohn moved to Germany . Here he was a seminar teacher in Kammin and Wunstorf from 1892 to 1895 , then until 1902 as a teacher at the Prox teachers' seminar in Berlin, as well as a lecturer at the Humboldt Academy . From 1902 to 1906 he was inspector at the Bugenhagen Alumnate and teacher at the Royal Bugenhagen Gymnasium in Treptow an der Rega . From 1906 to 1819 he was head of a private pension in Frankfurt / Main , returned to the Baltic States, to Mitau , for the years 1916 to 1917 , and finally was a private teacher in Berlin from 1919.
Girgensohn was a member since 1874, secretary from 1875 to 1878, co-director from 1879 to 1890 and a corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia in Riga since 1894 . From 1887 he was also a corresponding member of the Estonian Scholarly Society in Dorpat.
