Christian Eschler (born January 11, 1904 as Christian Estler in Tailfingen ( Württemberg ); † April 24, 1965 in St. Gallen ; legal resident from 1933 in St. Gallen, from 1963 in Boltigen ) was a German textile entrepreneur and tricot manufacturer .

Life

Christian Eschler was a son of Johannes Estler, a jersey weaver, and Anna Estler, nee Haasis. In 1929 Christian Eschler married his first wife, Bertha Diethelm, daughter of Karl Diethelm, a mechanic . He married his second wife, Margrit Walser, daughter of Adolf, the brewery owner , in 1932.

After working as a circular knitting machine mechanic for several years , Christian Eschler opened a mechanical knitting shop in St. Gallen-Bruggen in 1927 . He relocated these to Bühler in 1935 and expanded them largely with his own funds. As a pioneer in the Ausserrhoder clothing industry , he had to hand over management to his two sons for health reasons at the beginning of the 1960s. Christian Eschler AG, run by the 2nd and 3rd generation, is known today for its functional fabrics for athletes . As a counterpoint to the established village elite, Christian Eschler founded the Bühler residents' association. From 1946 to 1949 he was a local councilor ; the choice represented recognition of his entrepreneurial work. He was also a member of the board of directors of the St. Gallen-Gais-Appenzell railway .
