Christian Floto (* 1956 in Lübeck ) is a German doctor and science journalist .

Life

After graduating from the Katharineum in Lübeck , Christian Floto studied human medicine in Kiel and Lübeck . In 1982, he was in Luebeck with a dissertation on The traumatic brain injury in children and adolescents to Dr. med. PhD. From 1982 to 1984 he was a scientific consultant at the Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examination Questions in Mainz and from 1984 to 1986 he was the medical director of the State Medical Association of Hesse. From 1986 to 1991 he worked as an academic adviser for theoretical medicine in the health sciences working group at the University of Osnabrück, from 1992 for the ZDF , where he became head of the ZDF's health and nature editorial team in 1993 and followed Hans Mohl as moderator of the health magazine Praxis . Until 2003 he represented ZDF on the board of trustees of Aktion Mensch (formerly: “Aktion Sorgekind”).

In 2001 Floto took over the management of the Institute for Scientific Film ( IWF Knowledge and Media ) in Göttingen . At the same time he was appointed full professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig for the field of media use in science . From 2005 to 2006 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Since April 2006, Christian Floto has been head of the science and education department at Deutschlandfunk . In 2006, the Technical University of Braunschweig also appointed him honorary professor.

Honors

In 2018 Floto was awarded the Science Journalism Prize of the German Cardiac Society .
