Christian Franz (born August 12, 1979 in Dortmund ) is a former German ice hockey player who was last active for the EHC Dortmund .

Career

Franz began his ice hockey career in 1987 in the Bambini team of the ERC Westphalia Dortmund. In the period that followed, he went through all of the junior teams at the ERC Westphalia and its successor teams. During the 1996/97 season he played seven league games for the first senior team of the then newly founded EHC Dortmund. In summer 1997 he switched to his long-term employer, the Iserlohn Roosters . There he first played in the then second-highest German division, the 1st League North .

In 1999 he played six games for the German junior national team , in which he scored three points. In Iserlohn, the then 20-year-old developed into one of the top performers. His hard and precise slap shot also earned him a permanent position in the Iserlohn power play .

After the Roosters were accepted into the German ice hockey league in the summer of 2000 , Franz also made his debut in the German elite league . For years he was an integral part of the Iserlohn defensive department before he joined league rivals Nürnberg Ice Tigers at the beginning of the 2004/05 season. With the Ice Tigers, Franz was able to move into the play-offs twice, but where they failed in the first round.

In 2005 they lost 2: 4 games against Adler Mannheim and a year later the team had to draw the short straw with 0: 4 games. The left-shooter completed ten play-off games in which he scored three points. After two very successful years, Christian Franz changed clubs again and landed with the Eisbären Regensburg in 2006 .

After the club ran into more and more financial difficulties towards the end of the 2007/2008 season and finally had to file for bankruptcy, the defender officially declared his career over. Contrary to what he said, Franz signed a contract with EHC Dortmund a few months later. There he took over the post of substitute captain at the beginning of the 2008/09 season. With the Elks of the defensive players rose to the end of the season in the league on. Then he ended his career.
