Life

Christian Friedrich Neue, the son of a master furrier , studied philology at Berlin University , where he was particularly influenced by August Boeckh . From 1820 he worked as a teacher at the Pforta State School . He kept in contact with the Berlin University. He achieved his doctorate in 1822 and published various philological works in Berlin publishers.

1831 New received a professorship at the University of Tartu to the chair of "literary history, altclassische philology and pedagogy ". Neue worked in Dorpat for 30 years, from 1831 to 1837 also as a member of the school commission. He served several times as dean of the philosophy faculty (1833, 1835, 1839, 1842–1845, 1847–1851) and from 1836 to 1839 and from 1843 to 1851 as rector of the university. In 1861, Neue took his leave at the age of 72 and moved to Stuttgart, where he passed his retirement. In retirement he published a two-volume treatise on the theory of forms of the Latin language, which was the result of his 50 years of teaching. The work was revised by Carl Wagener (1842–1920) and is therefore known as the "New Wagener theory of forms".
