Christian Gottlieb Gmelin (born January 10, 1749 in Tübingen ; † December 8, 1809 there ) was a German pharmacist .

Life

Christian Gottlieb Gmelin was a third generation pharmacist. With his father as a model, Gmelin also studied medicine and obtained his doctorate med. In 1785. at the University of Erlangen. In addition to his studies, he did an apprenticeship with his step-grandfather Gaum. He worked as an assistant for three years in Schaffhausen with Hurter, half a year in Karlsruhe with Klos, four months in Frankfurt am Main with Kathwendel and one and a half years in Hanover with Andreae. In 1772 Gmelin returned to Tübingen and passed the pharmacy exam. He took over the pharmacy of his step-grandfather Gaum, which after the death of his father Johann Konrad Gmelin belonged half to his mother. Christian Gottlieb Gmelin was a highly respected pharmacist and was often consulted for chemical reports. His son, Christian Gottlob Gmelin , was a professor of chemistry and pharmacy at the University of Tübingen .
