Gustav Clemm 1845

Christian Gustav Clemm , also Gustav Klem (born March 29, 1814 in Lich , Hessen, † January 3, 1866 in Dresden ) was a German chemist .

Life

Clemm studied chemistry at the University of Gießen and was there in 1831 a member of the Corps Hassia Gießen and the old fraternity Germania Gießen and in 1833 of the Corps Palatia Gießen . During this time he also maintained connections with the poet Georg Büchner and the Butzbach pastor Friedrich Ludwig Weidig . As a 19-year-old student conspirator who had prepared leaflets for the " Hessischer Landbote " and distributed them throughout the country, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. After his pardon in 1839 he had to leave Hessen and concentrated on his profession as a pharmacist and chemist. This pardon could only come about because he brought about fifty people to prison and Friedrich Ludwig Weidig's death through his declarations and confessions. Only in this way could he be admitted to civil service and thus to marry a landowner and state minister daughter.

In 1845 he received his doctorate at the University of Göttingen with a thesis on milk Inquisitiones chemicae ac microscopicae in mulierum ac bestiarum complurum lac . Then he was next to Christian Gottfried Boehringer (1818–1864) technical director of a chemical factory in Heilbronn , which had been merged with his brother's "Wohlhotels" factory in Mannheim in 1852 .

In 1856 he headed the founding of the Austrian association for chemical and metallurgical production in Aussig ad Elbe ( Aussiger association ) in Vienna . After he was dismissed as director of the Aussiger factory in 1859, he went to Dresden, where he received patents in 1863 for an improvement in sulfuric acid, soda and magnesia production.
