Christian Held (basketball coach)

Christian Held (born July 6, 1988 in Aachen ) is a German basketball coach .

career

Ralph Held's son moved with the family from Aachen to Trier at the age of three , where his father worked as a trainer. At the age of 15, Held and his parents moved to Oldenburg after his father had started a coaching position there.

Christian Held worked as a youth coach in the youth division of the Bundesliga club EWE Baskets Oldenburg and was head coach of the Lower Saxony U19 team when he succeeded Mladen Drijenčić as coach of the Oldenburg youth development team, Baskets Akademie Weser-Ems / Oldenburger TB (BAWE), in late March 2015 the 2nd Bundesliga ProB  was. Drijencic had been promoted to the Oldenburg Bundesliga coaching post. Held took over BAWE before the start of the quarter-finals against Weißenhorn and led the Oldenburg team to win the ProB title and thus to repeat the previous year's triumph, at that time still under Drijencic's leadership. In the 2015/16 season, Held's team was eliminated in the ProB round of 16.

For the 2016/17 season he switched to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA as an assistant coach for the Gladiators Trier . In mid-January 2018, Trier announced that Held would succeed Marco van den Berg  as head coach at the beginning of the 2018/19 game year . In July 2018, Held completed a three-year coaching course at the European Basketball Association . His term of office in Trier ended in April 2020. He switched to league rivals Rostock Seawolves in summer 2020 , and became assistant coach to Dirk Bauermann at Mecklenburg .
