Christian Jank
Christian Jank (born July 15, 1833 in Munich ; † November 25, 1888 there ) was a German theater and stage painter who became known for his work for the Bavarian King Ludwig II .
Life
Jank originally worked in Munich , where he was involved, among other things, on the sets for the opera Lohengrin composed by Richard Wagner . His work aroused the interest of the Bavarian King Ludwig II, who commissioned Jank with designs for his building projects inspired by Richard Wagner's operas. The Neuschwanstein Castle , built by Eduard Riedel and Georg Dollmann from 1869, goes back to Christian Jank's historicist designs ; Jank was also involved in furnishing Linderhof Palace . His extensive designs for Falkenstein Castle could not be carried out; the project was discontinued after the king's death in 1886.
He was the father of the animal painter and graphic artist Angelo Jank , who was to significantly shape the graphic style of Jugend magazine .
