Christian Klein (Pharmacist)

Christian DP Klein is a German pharmacist , university professor and managing director of the Institute for Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology .

Life

Klein studied pharmacy at the University of Bonn and the ETH Zurich . After an internship in pharmacy (including at Bayer AG ), military service and a stay abroad at the University of Illinois at Chicago , he received his doctorate from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Bonn. The dissertation was supervised by Ulrike Holzgrabe and Anton J. Hopfinger . For his dissertation he received the Scheele Prize from the German Pharmaceutical Society.

From 2000 to 2001 he was a post-doc at Saarland University . After being accepted into the Emmy Noether Program of the German Research Foundation , he worked as a post-doc at ETH Zurich from 2001 to 2003, and again as a junior research group leader at Saarland University from 2003 to 2007. In this context, he temporarily represented the subject of pharmaceutical chemistry at the ETH Zurich and the Saarland University.

In 2007 he received two calls for W3 professorships. He accepted the call to Heidelberg University , where he has been Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry with a focus on Medicinal Chemistry at the Institute for Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology since 2007 .

His field of work is the discovery and development of new active ingredients. He is particularly interested in molecules that bind covalently to the target, e.g. B. Fumagillin derivatives . Such active ingredients are of particular value in the therapy of tumors and infectious diseases.
