Christian Kosmas Mayer (* 1976 in Sigmaringen ) is a German artist who lives in Vienna .

Life

Mayer studied from 1997 to 2000 at the Saar College of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken, from 2000 to 2005 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , and in 2003 at the Glasgow School of Art .

He works in different media such as photography, sculpture, installation and video art . His work is characterized by intensive research into the stories that a society constructs of itself, and revolves around the question of the importance of material phenomena in this context. At the center of his interest are the conditions of perception in relation to their cultural and technological requirements. Different times and cultures, the foreign and the familiar, are subjected to a critical interpretation, which at the same time sharpens our view of the present and its historical influences.

Mayer has also been active as a musician in various bands since the 1990s, including “My Dreams in Chaos” (1992–96).

Since 2002 he has been a member of the editorial board of a magazine he co-founded, which changes the font and name with every issue.

In 2011 Mayer was awarded the Kardinal-König-Kunstpreis for his work In the instant of memory, everything was swirling and dissolving .
