Peter Markovič

Peter Markovič (born July 2, 1866 in Rosegg ; † February 27, 1929 ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

The academic painter and eccentric Peter Markovič, a member of the Slovene ethnic group, was of rural descent and was born on July 2, 1866 in Berg bei Rosegg. In Klagenfurt is a patron found the Markovič studying at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts allowed. After his return home, he married a woman from Maria Elend and settled in Frög near Rosegg. Markovič mainly dealt with sacred painting for the churches in the near and far surroundings. He also created frescoes for many wayside shrines. He immortalized his wife in many a Madonna picture. The tall man with a goatee was also a nature lover: he kept exotic birds in his home. After the early death of his daughter, he designed a wayside shrine in the Rosegger cemetery. In its place there is a monument made by France Gorše with a bust of the artist Markovič. Peter Markovič fell victim to severe flu at the age of 62 and died on February 27, 1929.
