Dieter Nentwig

Dieter Nentwig (* 1946 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German concert and tour organizer and music producer who has emerged in the fields of jazz , blues, gospel, Celtic folk and klezmer.

Life and effect

Nentwig started playing the washboard while training to be a chemical technician . Soon he was head of Zech's Washboard Company , with which he performed throughout Germany. He was also involved as a musician in recordings of the Red Hot Hottentots and Frankfurt All-Star Ensembles and also played as a guest soloist with Rod Mason and Abbi Hübner .

After initially working as a concert organizer for the Society for the Promotion of New Orleans Jazz , he founded his own concert management team in 1971, with which he held jazz concerts with musicians such as Alton Purnell and Trevor Richards as well as Benny Waters and Stéphane Grappelli , initially limited to a regional level or Dudu Pukwana ; Folk concerts with groups like Wild Geese , Planxty and the Tannahill Weavers soon followed . Since 1972 he has been the manager of the Barrelhouse Jazzband ; he also popularized Les Haricots Rouges and Klezmer music in Germany with Giora Feidman .

In Frankfurt he worked as a program consultant for the newly opened Sinkkasten (1971) and started concert series such as Jazz in the Schlachthof (1975) and Jazz in the Niddaparkterrassen (1980). From the mid-1970s he organized festival tours such as A Night in New Orleans , Celtic Folk Festival , German Blues Meeting , the German Country Festival , the European Hot-Jazz & Dixieland Festival , the Festival Swinging Paris and the Gospel and Spiritual Meeting . Between 1977 and 1981 he worked with Diether Dehm and organized concerts by the bots , by Nina Hagen and Klaus Lage . From 1977 to 2006 Nentwig was artistic director of the Jazz in der Burg festival in Dreieich . Since 1984 he has produced the annual Barrelhouse Jazz Gala , with which he toured numerous cities. In the Alte Oper Frankfurt he presented artists such as Dizzy Gillespie , Stan Getz , Jacques Loussier and organized a. a. the gala for Fritz Rau's 80th birthday . The Barrelhouse Jazz Party , which Nentwig produced for the first time in 1983 in the Alte Oper , has taken place annually since then. From 1994 to 2017, Nentwig was responsible for the program for the annual summer concert series Jazz im Hof in the Ministry of Science and Art .

Until the 90s he organized the Germany tours of u. a. Giora Feidman, Trevor Richards, The Jackson Singers, La Romanderie, Schnuckenack Reinhardt , Memphis Slim and other US blues musicians.

From 1975 he was a producer of the label Joke Records where plates among others, Oscar Klein with Günter Boas , the Frankfurt City Blues Band with Alexis Korner and Louisiana Red , Irish folk band Wild Geese , the Frankfurt Swing All Stars , or the Old Metropolitan band emerged . Since 1988 he has produced all of the Barrelhouse Jazzband's CDs . In 2018 he ended his job as manager and agent of the Barrelhouse Jazzband.

Nentwig continues to run his agency for jazz and bluesands, organizes concerts in the Alte Oper Frankfurt and produces the annual Barrelhouse Jazz Gala tour .
