Bots is a Dutch music group that combines elements of folk , jazz and rock into a characteristic mixture with texts in Dutch and later in German .

history

The group Bots (Dutch botsen: "collide") came together in 1974 and initially only published songs in Dutch. The texts were predominantly political, socially critical and influenced by the peace movement of the 1970s. The driving force was the singer and guitarist Hans Sanders, who had released his first single in 1967 . He died on November 3, 2007 in Eindhoven .

After appearing at the Rock gegen Rechts festival in Frankfurt am Main in June 1979, the bots also became known in Germany, and they received an offer to Germanize their texts. Wolf Biermann , Diether Dehm , Dieter Hildebrandt , Hanns Dieter Hüsch , Peter Tobias , Henning Venske , Hannes Wader and Günter Wallraff helped with the translations .

The catchy melodies of their pieces are partly borrowed from traditional folk songs. Thus the well-known due seven days on the Breton Trinklied Son ar chistr (Song of cider ), which in 1970 by a recording of the harpist Alan Stivell on his album Reflets was popularized internationally (1970).

After seven days , the bots played mostly with getting up! , which is based on the song Morgenrot by Georg Danzer , and The soft water in the audience's favor.

The group gained popularity especially in the West German peace movement against the NATO double resolution and anti-nuclear power movement of the 1980s.

In addition, the bots were guests in the GDR several times , for the first time in 1976 at the Festival of Political Songs in East Berlin , where the group dedicated the song Zeven dagen long to the singer and poet Wolf Biermann , who had been banned from performing for ten years at the time had, most recently at the largest open-air festival in the GDR on June 19, 1988 at the Weißensee Radrennbahn in East Berlin.

After the decline in popularity and the release of the Dutch album Paradijs in 1990, the members of the group withdrew into private life. There was a resurgence after an appearance at the Dutch Folkwoods Festival in 2001, which was followed by another in 2003. After the death of Hans Sanders, Rik Polman became the band's new singer. In Germany, the bots appeared again on September 18, 2010 at the large anti-nuclear demonstration in Berlin. In 2014 the band celebrated their 40th anniversary.
