Christian Schmidt (General Manager)

Christian Schmidt (* 1958 in Görlitz ) is a German theater and opera director and general manager .

Life

From 1973 Schmidt attended the special school for music at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , today the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach music school . From 1977 he studied at the local music academy "Hanns Eisler". He started singing and studied opera direction from 1978 to 1983 . As a diploma thesis he staged the comic opera Der Liebestrank by Gaetano Donizetti at the Städtische Bühnen in Magdeburg .

Schmidt began his professional life as an assistant director at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden . 1987 he became director of the Saxony Theater in Radebeul , from September 1991 he took (already provisionally since October 1990) in the second largest travel theaters in Germany and the line as a director , which he then became the youngest director in Germany. Although his contract was extended until 2013, he resigned from his position as the longest-serving director of a state theater in Germany due to the changes in the state theaters to the “Mobile Theater for Saxony” without his own orchestra and was replaced by Manuel Schöbel .

As chairman of the state stage group in the German stage association , Schmidt was a member of the executive committee of the stage association.
