Christian Georg Speyer (born February 21, 1855 in Vorbachzimmer ; † October 5, 1929 in Stuttgart ) was a German horse painter.

Christian Speyer came from a pastor's family. He studied painting at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart with Carl von Häberlin . After graduating, he went on a study trip to Italy in 1881 .

Accompanied by the Africa explorer Gustav Nachtigal , he came to North Africa. In Tunis he found an apartment in the house of the British consulate. There he devoted himself to horse painting. Then he came home to Stuttgart and became a member of the local association for the promotion of art. In 1883 he moved to Munich . He was one of the founding members of the Munich Secession . Speyer made study trips to Berlin in 1885 and to Paris in 1887.

In 1901 Speyer was appointed professor of drawing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where he remained active until 1924. He also illustrated war and military books, including “Our People in Arms” by Bernhard von Poten and numerous volumes of the “Illustrated battle descriptions” from the Franco-German War by Carl Bleibtreu .

Christian Speyer was a member of the German Association of Artists .
