Christian Strasser (Manager)

Christian Strasser (born April 21, 1962 in Gschwandt near Gmunden , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian culture and real estate manager . He has been director of the MuseumsQuartier Wien since 2011 .

Life

Christian Strasser studied law at the University of Linz , attended the LIMAK Austrian Business School and graduated in 1999 from the "Global Executive Master of Business Administration" course at the University of Toronto .

From 1985 to 1999 he managed the Posthof Linz . He initiated and managed the construction of the large extension building Posthof 2. Under his directorship he made the Posthof one of the leading Austrian locations for music, dance, theater, literature and cabaret. During this time he was jointly responsible for the transformation of Linz from a steel and industrial city into an internationally oriented cultural city in which new cultural institutions were constantly being founded, such as the Lentos Museum or the Musiktheater am Volksgarten . In 2009 Linz became the European Capital of Culture . In 1999 he took over the management of building management for the city ​​of Linz and was thus responsible for the administration, maintenance and facility management of around 400 properties. In 2005 Christian Strasser also took over the buying and selling of real estate as managing director of Immobilien Linz GmbH & Co KG and Immobilien Linz GmbH. In 2011, Christian Strasser was appointed director of the MuseumsQuartier establishment and operating company by the Austrian Federal Minister for Art and Culture , and in 2016 he was contractually extended in this role for another five years.

Directorate of the Museum Quarter

The MuseumsQuartier Wien, which opened in 2001, is one of the world's largest museum and cultural areas with 90,000 m² and more than four million visitors a year. In 2014 Strasser began building the MQ Libelle, a roof structure planned by the architects of the MuseumsQuartier Ortner + Ortner on the Leopold Museum, which is to be completed by 2019. This will make an additional level in the MuseumsQuartier freely accessible to the public. One focus of Christian Strasser as director of the MuseumsQuartier is finding synergies and working together with the more than 60 institutions, initiatives, festivals and artist groups within the MuseumsQuartier Vienna, but also with players in Austria and internationally, in order to create new artistic and cultural projects to realize. In 2017, for example, the “MQ Amore” project was implemented as a collaboration between MQ E + B, the Architekturzentrum Wien , the Leopold Museum Wien, the Kunsthalle Wien and the Q21. This is a sculpture park on the forecourt of the MuseumsQuartier, which can be used as a mini golf course . Every two years there is a major summer focus such as the “Summer of Sounds”, the “Summer of Fashion” or the “Summer of Movement”, in which all institutions and players based in the MuseumsQuartier take part.
