Christian Walther (journalist)

Christian Walther (born July 23, 1956 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and political scientist .

Life

After graduating from Arndt High School in Dahlem , Christian Walther studied political science at the Otto Suhr Institute (OSI) / Free University of Berlin . He also attended the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He graduated in 1982 with a diploma. 2015 he was at the Institute of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the University of Berlin with a thesis on the songwriter, lyricist and librettist Robert Gilbert Dr. phil. PhD.

He has been working as a journalist since 1983, initially for the Berlin city magazine Zitty and the radio station for Sender Freies Berlin . Since 1984 he has worked - with interruptions - for the evening show (Berlin) of the SFB / rbb . As a writer, he has done a number of television features. In 1987/88 Walther was the coordinator of the relaunch at the Spandauer Volksblatt .

From 1992 to 1996 he headed press and public relations for the Free University of Berlin . During this time he was also the initiator of uniRadio Berlin-Brandenburg . From 2010 to 2012 he headed the press and public relations work of the Berlin Senate Administration for Education, Science and Research under its Senator Jürgen Zöllner , then until 2015 the press and public relations work of the Leibniz Association . During his studies he was the managing director of the Ring Politischer Jugend, Berlin. In this position he succeeded Klaus Uwe Benneter .

After the merger of DJV Berlin and the Berlin-Brandenburg Journalists' Association in 2019, the first general meeting of the unified association on January 11, 2020 elected him chairman. Before that, he was chairman of the Berlin-Brandenburg Journalists' Association from 2016 to 2019 . From 2001 to 2017 he was chairman of the OSI Club, an alumni association with around 800 members at the Otto Suhr Institute . From 1976 to 1978 Walther was state chairman of the German Young Democrats in Berlin. 1980–81 he was a member of the board of the United German Student Unions and of the federal board of the Liberal University Association .
