Christiane Olivier (psychoanalyst)

Christiane Olivier (* 1938 ) is a French psychoanalyst and book author .

Life

In 1938 Christiane Olivier was born in the middle of France as the daughter of a country doctor. She studied literature and psychology at the Sorbonne as a student of Jean Piaget and Didier Anzieu . She has been working as a psychoanalyst since 1968. Initially, Olivier belonged to the Lacan School around Françoise Dolto , from which she separated, however, in order to develop an approach that expanded psychoanalytic theory and the female perspective and made it understandable for laypeople as well.

When Dolto had set up a branch for psychoanalysis at the faculty of the University of Aix-en-Provence since 1972, Christiane Olivier moved there in 1974/75.

With your book Jokaste's Children. The psyche of women in the shadow of their mother (original: les enfants de Jocaste ) represents a part of the Oedipus conflict that has not been explored so far and complements Sigmund Freud's theory with a feminine perspective. This book had three editions in 1987 and was published in licensed editions in its 14th edition by 2000.

In the sociological discussion on the role perception of female pubescent boy is often on words Jocasta children such. B. "I like - therefore I am" used. In the discussion about violence on the subject of young people, the German-language press drew conclusions from this work a.o. in the early 1990s. a. that the "absence of fathers (..) leads to psychosexual disorders in daughters".

Also her other books, Die Psychofamilie , F as in Woman: Psychoanalysis and Sexuality , The Sons of Orestes: a plea for fathers , in which she calls on men to face their responsibility as father, and Taming the Inner Monster: Why Our Children authority need experienced several editions and were well received by the critics, but none of their work has been so successful as her debut.

Christiane Olivier is married and has three children.
