Diana - The Last 24 Hours is the title of a documentary drama from 2007, and on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of the Princess of Wales , tells of the last days of her life, although the German title only mentions the last 24 hours.
action
The action begins at the end of June 1997 when Diana is invited by the Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed on his yacht to the Mediterranean Sea. Here she befriends his son Dodi, although she has a love affair with the cardiac surgeon Hasnat Khan.
Diana and Dodi will soon become the plaything and popular media prey. Paparazzi are on the hunt for the photo par excellence and keep Dodi's bodyguards, Kez Wingfield and Trevor Rees Jones, on their toes: A photo of Diana with supposed lovers is more in demand than her campaign against landmines , a circumstance that makes Diana angry.
Diana and Dodi hope to have a nice evening in Paris. But the events of August 30, 1997 turned out differently than planned when the couple were harassed by photographers. Despite a diversion at the Hôtel Ritz , Diana and Dodi are followed by press people on motorcycles. A devastating accident occurs in which Diana, Dodi and their driver Henri Paul are victims.
In parallel to the cinematic reconstruction of the story, interviews with relevant personalities, including Mohamed Al-Fayed, are recorded.
Reviews
"Using archive material and recreated scenes, the docudrama condenses the story and exaggerates the known facts into playfulness."
Background information
The television film , which was shot on locations in France and England, knows how to convey very little emotion, despite the convincing portrayal of the two main actors, because the effort was made to present as many facts as possible. The script is based heavily on the statements made in the Paget investigation report .
Since those responsible had already given the producers of The Queen permission to film at the Ritz, director Richard Dale had to move to Wendover ( Buckinghamshire ) to shoot the crucial scenes in Halton House , a country estate there.
Jake Taylor Shantos, who embodies Prince William in Diana - The Last 24 Hours , portrayed Diana's eldest son in The Queen in 2006 .
