Nadim Sawalha

Nadim Sawalha ( Arabic نديم صوالحة; * September 1935 in Madaba , Jordan ) is a British film and theater actor .

Life

The exact date of birth of Nadim Sawalha can only be guessed at, since even Sawalha does not know the exact day. Presumably he was born between September 7th and 9th, 1935. His brother Nabil Sawalha is also an actor and works at The Theater of Political Satire in Jordan.

Sawalha, whose father was a British citizen, attended the English School in Amman before receiving a scholarship to the Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama in England. Sawalha studied acting here ; He graduated in 1956. First engagements at the theater and radio followed. He worked for the Arab partner broadcaster of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for 10 years . From 1965 to 1967 Sawalha lived in Jordan for two years, where he played a key role in developing and promoting theater groups. Sawalha was also a founding member of the Jordan National Theater . Immediately after the outbreak of the Six Day War , Sawalha returned to London .

Sawalha is now a sought-after actor when it comes to portraying Arabic-looking characters in Hollywood films . He also embodied well-known historical personalities such as Mohamed Al-Fayed , Melchior and King Hussein I. He took on one of his last roles in 2007 in Captain Abu Raed , for which he received film awards in Dubai and Newport Beach, California .

Nadim Sawalha is married to the British Roberta Lane; the couple have three daughters, of whom Nadia Sawalha and Julia Sawalha are also actors. His third daughter Dina works as a ballet dancer .
