Christiane Schmullius

Christiane Schmullius (born May 14, 1960 ) is a German geodetician , geoinformatics specialist and university professor . She holds the chair for remote sensing at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena .

Live and act

Christiane Schmullius was a research assistant at the Institute for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at the University of Karlsruhe from 1986 to 1988 and worked on projects of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on ways of using remote sensing data in the environmental sector as well as in agriculture and forestry.

From 1988 to 1991 she was a research assistant in the Geosciences Department at the Institute for Space Science at the Free University of Berlin . There she was the project manager of the BMFT land surface traverse experiment in the Hildesheimer Börde. In 1992, she was working radar remote sensing of agricultural land with an airborne L-, C- and X-band scatterometer at the Free University Berlin PhD .

From 1991 to 1994 she worked at the Institute for High Frequency Technology at the German Aerospace Research Institute . From 1996 to 2000 she headed the Geomatics group and was involved in three space shuttle missions, for example as "DLR Project Scientist" on the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission .

Since 1995 she has been a member of several national and international bodies.

In 2000 she was appointed professor for remote sensing at the chair for geoinformatics at the University of Jena. In 2006 she was appointed to the newly established chair for remote sensing.

Since 2007 she has been a member of the Advisory Committee for Earth System Science (Earth Science Advisory Committee) of the European Space Agency (ESA).

Awards

Christiane Schmullius was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2010 .
