Christiane Clara Wendehorst , b. Christiane Clara Lass (born November 14, 1968 in Munich ) is a German legal scholar, holder of a chair at the Institute for Civil Law at the University of Vienna and President of the European Law Institute .

Life

Christiane Wendehorst studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1988 to 1993 , passed the first state examination in 1993 and the second state examination in 1995 and received her doctorate there in 1995 with the thesis “The refugee in German international private law.” From 1993 to 1998 she was a research assistant at the Institute for International Law - Comparative Law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. From 1997 to 1998 she completed a Master of Laws at the University of Cambridge and qualified as a professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1998 with a thesis on “Claims and Compensation”. Afterwards she was university professor at the University of Greifswald from 1998/99 and from 1999 to 2008 university professor for civil law, medical law, international private law and comparative law at the law faculty of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 2008 she accepted a call to the University of Vienna and has since held a chair at the Institute for Civil Law. In addition to her work as a university professor, Christiane Wendehorst has numerous functions, including as President of the European Law Institute , Co-Spokeswoman for the Data Ethics Commission , Chairwoman of the Academy Council of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , and as a member of the Academia Europaea , the International Academy of Comparative Law , of the Bioethics Commission at the Federal Chancellery and the American Law Institute .

Research priorities and current research projects

Christiane Wendehorst's research focuses on classical civil law and European private law, in which she has written numerous publications and given lectures. She is currently working primarily on the legal challenges of digitization and is an expert on topics relating to digital content, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and data management and the like. a. worked for the European Commission, the European Parliament, the German Federal Government, the ELI and the ALI. Her current research projects include the "ELI-ALI Principles for a Data Economy" and "Empowering European Families".

Christiane Wendehorst is married to Stephan Wendehorst, has four children and lives in Vienna and Jerusalem.
