Christina von Hodenberg

Christina von Hodenberg (born November 4, 1965 in Krefeld ) is a German historian , professor at the Queen Mary University of London and director of the German Historical Institute (DHI) London .

Life

She studied in Bonn and Munich and did her doctorate in 1995 with Hans-Ulrich Wehler in Bielefeld with a collective biography on Prussian judges in the revolution of 1848/49. As assistant to Ulrich Herbert , she completed her habilitation in 2004 at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg with a history of the West German mass media from 1945 to 1973. She worked as a Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University (2000–2001) and as a visiting professor at the university of California, Berkeley (2002-2005). She has been teaching in London since 2006. In 2014 she received the Humboldt Research Award for her research on the social and media history of Germany in the 19th and 20th centuries. She is a member of the German History Society and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Center for Contemporary History Potsdam. On September 1, 2018, she took over the management of the German Historical Institute in London, succeeding Andreas Gestrich .
