Ford incriminated Brett Kavanaugh, the candidate for the vacant seat in the Supreme Court of the United States , on charges of sexual assault, which she described as attempted rape . She initially sent her allegation against him in an anonymous letter to the Washington Post . The incident is said to have occurred in the summer of 1982. After disclosing her identity, Ford identified the second young man who was in the room where the incident allegedly took place as Mark Judge, a writer. In an email to the Senate Judiciary Committee , Mark Judge said he could not remember the incident and said he was unaware of such behavior by Kavanaugh.

After Donald Trump had spoken positively about his candidate Kavanaugh for days afterwards, but not about Ford, he doubted their credibility in several tweets on September 21, causing a storm of indignation.
