Christine Brewer

Christine Brewer (born October 26, 1955 in Illinois ) is an American opera and concert singer ( soprano ).

Life

After her vocal training, Brewer worked as a vocal teacher before she became a member of the Saint Louis Symphony Chorus. In 1989 she won the singing competition of the Metropolitan Opera New York. Her career as a soloist began in 1990 in St. Louis as Ellen Orford in the opera Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten .

In the following years she only appeared in a few selected opera roles such as Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss or Donna Anna in Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . For this she concentrated on concerts and sang as a soloist with all leading American symphony orchestras.

In 2007, BBC Music Magazine listed Brewer as one of the 20 most important sopranos of the 20th century. The music critic Manuel Brug called Brewer "an exception worth hearing".
