Christine Lemke-Matwey

Christine Lemke-Matwey is a journalist , columnist and radio presenter specializing in classical music and opera . She has also emerged as a librettist and director of an opera.

Training and activities

Lemke-Matwey studied German, philosophy, theater and music sciences in Cologne and Munich up to the master’s degree. After working at various theaters, she switched to journalism. She worked for the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich, since 2000 for the Tagesspiegel in Berlin, and in 2012 went to ZEIT in Hamburg, for which she had been writing for a long time. Some of her pointed texts sparked heated debates.

In addition, she worked or works for the radio, especially for BR , RBB , SWR and WDR . There she produces music features and moderates talk shows and classical programs. From 2002 to 2014 Lemke-Matwey was one of the moderators of the Klassik-Forum show on the radio program WDR 3 .

Controversy

In 2011 Lemke-Matwey claimed in the ZEIT that the few sopranos in the world who had mastered the role of Brünnhilde in Wagner's Walküre at a high level rushed from premiere to premiere and broke down in the process. In May 2014, her collaboration with the WDR was terminated with immediate effect due to "disloyalty".
