Christine Vogel

Christine Vogel (* 1973 ) is a German historian .

Life

She studied philosophy, history and Romance studies in Mainz and Dijon . She was promoted to Dr. phil. at the Historical Institute of the Justus Liebig University Gießen with the work The Downfall of the Society of Jesus as a European Media Event. Journalistic debates in the tension between the Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment (1758-1773) PhD . The German Research Foundation supported her from 2000 to 2002 as a scholarship holder at the Graduate College Medieval and Modern Statehood at the University of Giessen. From July 2002 to March 2003 she was a scholarship holder at the Institute for European History in Mainz. From 2003 to 2005 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the DFG Graduate School Transnational Media Events from the Early Modern Era to the Present at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. From 2005 to 2007 she was the personal advisor to the President of the University of Mainz . She was an associated member of the DFG research group Self-testimonies in a transcultural perspective at the Free University of Berlin from 2008 to 2012. From 2008 to 2009 she was a research assistant at the Historical Institute of the University of Rostock in the DFG project The diplomatic persona in political ritual: West European legation reports from the Ottoman Empire . From 2009 to 2010 she was a visiting scholar (Humboldt fellow) at the Center Roland Mousnier at the University of Paris IV . From October 2010 to July 2017 she taught as a junior professor for history from the 17th to the 19th century with a European focus at the University of Vechta . Since 2014 she has been an associate member of the Textual Ambassadors Research Network. In July 2015 she did research as a visiting scholar at Keble College . In March 2016 she conducted research with the Karl Ferdinand Werner Fellowship at the German Historical Institute in Paris . Since August 2017 she has been teaching as a university professor for history from the 17th to the 19th century with a European focus at the University of Vechta.

Her research areas are European media and communication history in the early modern period, historical image research, the Enlightenment and countercurrents, and symbolic communication and diplomatic practice in contact between Western Europe and the Ottoman Empire (17th / 18th centuries).
