The Christ the King Church

The Roman Catholic parish church Christkönig is a church building in Reinhardshausen , a district of Bad Wildungen in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district ( Hesse ). At the back there is a retirement home. The parish belongs to the pastoral network Wildungen and Waldeck.

History and architecture

In the 1950s and 1960s, the town to the west of Bad Wildungen developed through the construction of spa facilities and sanatoriums in conjunction with corresponding residential developments. Until then, the services were held in a small chapel in the center of the village. More and more spa guests visited Reinhardshausen. The clinics and rehabilitation facilities now offer around 5,000 beds. The planners saw the need to build a church. The building, erected between 1966 and 1967 according to plans by Josef Bieling , stands in a walled churchyard and is clearly delimited from the surrounding area. It was consecrated in 1968. The property is accessed from the street via a footpath. The church, the sacristy, the church tower and the rectory are located in the corners of the area. The church building is built on an almost square floor plan, the angle to the courtyard side is diagonally sloping. The outer walls are plastered white. The concrete walls in the chancel are structured by glass windows by Erwin Fischer. A small adoration chapel is framed by two portals, above which is the singing and organ stage .

The church tower stands in the corner of the churchyard wall on a square floor plan. The walls are white, the roof is flat. In the area of the bell chamber, there are narrow sound openings on all four sides . The relationship to the shape of the church building appears balanced.

Furnishing

  • The tabernacle is highlighted by a concrete reredos, which is related to the tracery of the windows.
  • The altar has been raised two steps and moved forward; like the ambo and the tabernacle, it is a work by Benno Lipsmeier.
  • The representation of Christ the King was cast in bronze in 2012 in the Schüler foundry in Lüdinghausen, based on a model by J. Wittstamm from Lüdinghausen, and mounted on the rear wall of the chancel. The sculptural figure with a crown is included in the design of the chancel.
  • The most important work of art is a Pietà by Käthe Kollwitz .
