Christoph Friedrich Ploucquet (* 23. May 1781 in Stuttgart , † 24. July 1844 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a German Schönfärber and clothiers and founder of the textile company CF Ploucquet .

Life

Christoph Friedrich Ploucquet was born on May 23, 1781 as the son of Johann Martin Ploucquet in Stuttgart . This came from a French Huguenot family, which can be traced back in Württemberg through several generations of art, woad and beauty dyers, all the way to the ancestor Johann Wilhelm Ploucquet. He lived near Lyon until he moved to Marbach am Neckar in 1680 .

Christoph Friedrich Ploucquet was accepted as a citizen in Heidenheim on January 13, 1806 and opened his general store CF Ploucquet in the same year. He bought the property in front of the Upper Gate (at today's Eugen-Jaekle-Platz) from a relative, the merchant Brindeau. The shop in question mainly sold all kinds of fabrics, linen and clothing.

The Heidenheim location was economically interesting for Ploucquet as it was a center of the weaving trade. The flax previously grown on the Alb and later cotton were used as raw materials . Yarn boilers, lawn bleaching and dyeing plants made up a large part of the commercial activity in Heidenheim. After ten years the business became too small due to the high demand, so he expanded it. In just under three decades he managed to make the business one of the most famous and respected in the district. The company remained in family hands until 2006. In the same year the main plant in Heidenheim was closed, the company headquarters is now in Unterföhring .

Ploucquet's daughter Wilhelmine married the businessman Ludwig Friedrich Lang in 1841. When he joined the company, a new phase began for the business. The company no longer only traded in fabric , it also produced it. Around 500 weavers in Heidenheim and the surrounding towns worked for the company.

Ploucquet was one of the most respected and popular citizens in Heidenheim. During the famine of 1816/17 he helped the citizens with the establishment of a soup kitchen and contributed money for the food. He died on July 24, 1844 in Heidenheim. After his death, his son-in-law Ludwig Friedrich Lang and his brother-in-law, the entrepreneur Georg Jooss, continued to run the business.
