Christoph Großjohann

Christoph Hartwig Großjohann (born April 16, 1882 in Halle (Westphalia) ; † September 12, 1953 in Düsseldorf ) was a German road construction engineer.

Career

Großjohann was born as the son of the organ builder and composer Friedrich Großjohann (1844–1927) and Marie Tremper (1853–1915). He studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Hanover and graduated in 1905 with the diploma examination.

He then entered the state building service and in 1908 he was appointed government master builder . From 1909 to 1911, as an employee of the city of Frankfurt am Main, he headed the construction office for the construction of the east port . From 1919 on he was head of the civil engineering office II in Krefeld. After working as head of the state road construction office in Krefeld, from 1925 he was a department head at the provincial road construction administration of the Rhine province . After the end of the Second World War, he took over the management of the authority.

In 1946 he was appointed deputy general director and head of the road construction department at the road construction and transport department in Bielefeld, which later became the main administration for roads in the united British and American occupation zones . In 1947 he retired. In the same year he was elected President of the Road Research Association.
