Christoph Haberland (Latvian: Kristof Hāberlands ; born January 1 . Jul / 12. January  1750 greg. In Riga , † April 7 jul. / 19th April  1803 greg. ) Was a well-known architect , who worked in Riga. Haberland was a representative of bourgeois classicism .

Life

The German-Balte Haberland was born in a corner house at the intersection of Riharda Vāgnera iela and Teātra iela, which today houses the Hotel Man-Tess. He studied in Berlin and Dresden . With the planning of the extension of the library wing to the former cathedral monastery, he gained authority among specialist colleagues and encouragement from clients. The Column Hall in the Museum of the History and Seafaring of Riga (1778) is considered to be his masterpiece. Haberland was the city architect of Riga from 1789–1797. Haberland's hallmark is the harmonious combination of classicism with elements of the baroque .
