Christoph Kumpan

Christoph Kumpan (* 1974 ) is a German legal scholar and holder of the chair for civil law, corporate law and capital market law at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.

Life

Christoph Kumpan studied economics in Berlin and law in Berlin, Heidelberg and Chicago. After the first state examination in law in 2000, he obtained an LL.M. at the University of Chicago (2002). This was followed by the second state examination in law (2004).

He was a research fellow (2004–2012) and previously a research associate (2000–2004) at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law . After his habilitation on the topic “The Conflict of Interest in German Private Law” at the University of Hamburg in 2013, he was awarded the license to teach in the fields of civil law, German and European commercial, corporate and capital market law, civil procedural law and comparative law. From 2016 to 2020 he held the chair for civil law, business law, international private law and comparative law at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . Since April 2020 he has been professor of civil law, corporate law and capital market law at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.

His main research interests are capital market law, corporate governance, law of safeguarding interests and market organization law.
