Karsten Gaede

Karsten Gaede (born June 25, 1976 in Aschersleben ) is a German law scholar and university professor .

Life

Gaede studied law at the University of Leipzig and passed the first state examination in 2001 . He then worked as a research assistant to Wolfgang Wohlers at the University of Zurich . There he received his doctorate in 2005 with a thesis on fairness as participation - the right to concrete and effective participation through defense according to Art. 6 ECHR . In 2006, the work was awarded the annual prize of the law faculty of the University of Zurich for the best doctorate. In 2007 he passed the second state examination at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court . Gaede then worked as a research assistant to Frank Saliger at the Bucerius Law School . From 2010 he held a junior professorship for German and European criminal law and criminal procedure law . In 2014 he completed his habilitation there with a thesis on tax fraud . In the same year he was appointed full professor at the Bucerius Law School by way of a house appointment . He took over the Chair of Criminal Law II (German, European and international criminal law and criminal procedure law, including medical, commercial and tax criminal law). In 2016 Gaede turned down an offer for the W3 professorship for criminal law and criminal procedural law at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Gaede's research focuses on German and European (judicial) basic rights , European criminal law, criminal procedure law, general part of criminal law , commercial and tax criminal law , media criminal law and legal philosophy . Among other things, Gaede comments in the attorney's commentary and Nomos commentary on the criminal code as well as in the Munich commentary on the code of criminal procedure and in the comment on the code of criminal procedure justified by Ewald Löwe and Werner Rosenberg . He is the editor of the online magazine for highest judicial jurisprudence on criminal law HRRS .
