Ewald lion

Ewald Karl August Erdmann Löwe (born January 8, 1837 in Militsch , † January 1, 1896 ) was a German judge .

Life

Ewald Leo studied in Breslau , then in Halle (Saale) jurisprudence . During his time in Breslau he also became a member of the Corps Lusatia Breslau . He was a Freemason and a member of the "United Lodge" in Breslau. After completing his studies, Löwe became a public prosecutor in 1866 , but was immediately seconded to the Prussian Ministry of Justice and entrusted with work on the criminal procedure code for the North German Confederation and later for the German Empire . In 1881 he became Dr. iur. hc from the law faculty of the University of Leipzig. In 1889 Leo was namedCriminal judge and President of the Senate transferred to the Reich Court .

Leo was the author of the first legal commentary on the Criminal Procedure Code, which is now named after him and his still result Author Leo Rosenberg . The work from his pen appeared for the first time in 1879 with more than 1000 pages under the title The Code of Criminal Procedure for the German Reich, along with the Courts Constitution Act and the provisions of the other Reich laws relating to criminal proceedings . The work is considered a standard work and, as the oldest German-language legal commentary, is regularly reissued in multiple volumes to this day.
