Christoph Otto Oesler

Christoph Otto Oesler (born December 19, 1602 in Stettin , † April 1657 in Stettin) was a German medic .

Life and accomplishments

Oesler was born in Stettin in 1602 as the son of the court councilor Jeremias Oesler. He studied from 1625 to 1631 first at the University of Greifswald and then at the University of Leiden , where he received his doctorate. He then went on long trips through Europe.

In 1637 Oesler became a full professor of medicine at the University of Greifswald, succeeding Johann Schöner . But in the same year he left this position and became personal physician to Duke Friedrich III. from Holstein. In 1645 he returned to his hometown Stettin, where he practiced as a doctor until his death in 1657.

Oesler wrote numerous medical papers.
