Christoph Schulte (philosopher)

Christoph Schulte (born June 27, 1958 in Bottrop ) is a German philosopher.

Life

He studied philosophy, Jewish studies, theology and journalism in Heidelberg , Berlin and Jerusalem ( Magister 1983 / PhD FU Berlin 1987). After completing his habilitation at the University of Potsdam in 1996, he became an adjunct professor for Jewish studies and philosophy there in 2001 . He was a fellow and visiting professor in Jerusalem (1989–1991), Montreal (1991), Paris ( EHESS 1992), Chicago (1995), Aix-en-Provence (1997/98), Paris ( EPHE 2003), Philadelphia (Center for Advanced Judaic Studies 2009/10), Zurich ( ETH 2014), Basel (2016), Haifa (2017).

His work focuses on the history of philosophy, Jewish religious and cultural history, Enlightenment / Haskala, Kabbalah, the science of Judaism and Zionism and Israel.

In 2003 Schulte was awarded for his study The Jewish Enlightenment. Philosophy, Religion, History awarded the Gleim Literature Prize.
