Christoph Varga

Christoph Varga (born May 15, 1969 in Vienna ) is an Austrian television and radio journalist . From 2009 he was head of the economic department of Zeit im Bild . In September 2018 he was appointed editor-in-chief of ZIB 2 on October 1, 2018 as the successor to Wolfgang Wagner .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1987 at Hagenmüllergasse in Vienna 3, Varga studied geography and economics and history and social studies at the University of Vienna as well as organizational development and group dynamics at the University of Klagenfurt and completed his studies in 1994 with a thesis on the subject of the separation of young people from theirs Parents from a socio-historical point of view with special consideration of the 20th century at the University of Vienna.

He has been with ORF since 1988 , initially as a freelancer at Radio Wien , later he was a news anchor, editor and head of service for radio news and radio journals. In 1999/2000 he worked as an editor in the international department of ORF radio, in 2000/2001 he reported as a foreign correspondent from the ORF studio in Berlin .

From 2002 Varga worked in the economic department of Zeit im Bild (ZIB), from 2007 to 2009 he was deputy department head. From 2009 he was the successor to Erich Hirtl, head of the business department of Zeit im Bild. Among other things, Varga presented the stock market news in the midday ZIB and designed articles and conducted interviews for all ZIB programs. From February 2013 he also answered questions on the program heute Leben as part of the business talk . Together with Georg Ransmayr and Johannes Schwitzer he designed the documentary The BAWAG Scandal , and occasionally moderated the ORF press hour .

Since 1999, Varga has also been working as a trainer in ORF's internal journalist training. From 1999 to 2009 he was together with Reinhold Stipsits trainer at the Theresianische Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt for team-oriented conflict resolution and from 2007 to 2009 he taught media training together with Herbert Dobrovolny for prospective NCOs at the Army NCOs Academy in Enns .

In September 2018, Christoph Varga was appointed editor-in-chief of ZIB 2 on October 1, 2018 as the successor to Wolfgang Wagner . In May 2019 he was succeeded by Barbara Battisti as head of the ZIB business department.
