Christoph Wetzel (born June 5, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German painter , draftsman and sculptor based in Berlin.

Life

In 1967 Christoph Wetzel completed an apprenticeship in stonemasonry in Berlin and completed an evening course in sculpture at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art with Gerhard Thieme . From 1967 to 1973 he studied at the Dresden University of Fine Arts with Gerhard Kettner and Fritz Eisel and obtained a diploma as a wall and panel painter . From 1973 to 1974 he completed a restoration training at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden , Galerie Alte Meister .

From 1974 to 1977 Christoph Wetzel taught as a lecturer at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden. Since 1977 he has been working freelance in Dresden and Ringenhain . From 1982 to 1986 he taught nature studies at the State Porcelain Manufactory in Meißen . Christoph Wetzel has been chairman of the Artists' Association in Germany since 2007. He has lived and worked in Berlin since 2014.

Artistic creation

Christoph Wetzel depicts people in their various facets.

From 2002 to 2005 he reconstructed the dome paintings in the rebuilt Frauenkirche in Dresden . He had to fall back on some color photographs from 1943 and familiarized himself with Baroque painting on research trips to Italy. From 2010 to 2011 he reconstructed the ceiling paintings in Hundisburg Castle near Magdeburg , and from 2013 to 2014 the ceiling paintings in the Oratorium Marianum concert hall at the University of Breslau .
