Christopher Knight

Christopher Knight (born November 23, 1950 ) is an American art critic .

Life

Christopher Knight studied art history at the State University of New York and graduated in 1976 with a Master of Arts (MA) . He then worked as a curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego until 1979 . This was followed by a position as assistant director (Assistant Director) of public relations at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from 1979 to 1980 . From 1980 Knight worked as an art critic for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner newspaper . After the newspaper was discontinued in 1989, Knight moved to the Los Angeles Times , for which he writes regularly to the present day. In addition, he was a guest commentator in other media, including CBS -Nachrichtensendung 60 Minutes , the PBS - NewsHour , the NPR broadcasts Morning Edition and All Things Considered and CNN . He also appeared in the documentary The Art of the Steal about the controversial move of the Barnes Foundation to Philadelphia .

Awards

Knight was nominated three times (1991, 2001 and 2007) for the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism . In 1997 he received the Frank Jewett Mather Award for Distinction in Art Criticism from the College Art Association . The Atlanta College of Art named Knight an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in 1999 . In the same year he became an honorary member (Distinguished Alumnus) of Hartwick College in Oneonta (New York) . In 2009 he received a Souther California Journalism Award from the Los Angeles Press Club for Precious Stone's contribution to a Bernini exhibition at the Getty Museum .

In 2020 Knight received the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism.
