Christopher Poremba

Christopher Poremba (born September 21, 1967 ) is a German physician , pathologist and oncologist .

Life

Poremba studied medicine from 1987 to 1994 in Münster, as well as at Harvard Medical School in Boston , USA, and the University of Vermont in Burlington , USA. In 1995 he received summa cum laude at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster with work on molecular changes in the tumor suppressor gene p53 in human tumors to Dr. med. PhD . For his dissertation he worked closely with the Gerhard Domagk Institute for Pathology (GDI) at the University of Münster and the Howe Laboratory of Molecular Genetics at Harvard University in Boston. He then completed his training as a specialist in pathology at the GDI. After further training in Vancouver , Canada, he was senior physician at the GDI in Münster from 2000 to 2002. In 2001 he qualified as a professor for pathology with a thesis entitled “Biological relevance and diagnostic and prognostic applications in molecular tumor pathology”. In 2001 he became head of molecular pathology at the GDI.

2002 Poremba received a reputation as a professor of pathology at the Institute of Pathology at the University Hospital of the Heinrich-Heine University in Dusseldorf . Since 2004 he has been deputy director there.

Since August 1st, 2008 branch as a specialist in pathology in Trier (Center for Histology, Cytology and Molecular Diagnostics Trier)

Act

Poremba is particularly committed to establishing modern teaching methods in pathology. The main research areas are solid childhood tumors, breast cancer and hereditary colon cancer.

He has participated in several national and international clinical studies, which are supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) , the German Cancer Aid , the program "Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF)" of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research or by associations for children with cancer, were promoted or financed.

Poremba has received the advancement award of the Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH), the Bruno Heck Science Award (1997), the AstraZeneca Award of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (2001) and the research award of the “Dr. Günther Wille ”Foundation (2003).
