Bollard pull 55 tons (approx. 540 kN )

The tug Christos XXIV was built in 1971 as "Fairplay IX" at the Schichau shipyard in Bremerhaven for the Fairplay tugboat shipping company R. Borchard , today's name Fairplay tugboat shipping company Richard Borchard - Fairplay Towage . It was sold to the Greek Spanopoulus Group in 2011.

description

With a length of around 50 meters, width of 11 meters, draft of 6 meters, 834 GRT, 3600 HP and 55 tons (approx. 540 kN ) bollard pull , it was equipped with extremely large fuel tanks. This enabled him to carry out carry-overs over a period of around 90 days without re-bunking.

history

The tug was initially stationed in the port of Hamburg and was used for long-distance hauls around the world. Before it was sold, he had carried out kidnappings in long-haul service for around 40 years.

It was captured and kidnapped by pirates in Manila in May 1988. He was released after two weeks of wandering around Hong Kong.

In January 1990 he was involved in the recovery of the turbine tanker " Kharg 5 ".

When a pontoon was carried away in the same year, 18 Africans hid on the pontoon, who were only discovered shortly before the Netherlands.
