The Christ Church in Breslau (Wrocław), Hohenzollernstraße 55 (ul. Zaporoska) was a church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Old Prussia, which was independent of the Prussian regional church . The church was built in 1898–1901, destroyed at the end of the Second World War during the Battle of Wroclaw and never rebuilt.

history

Before the Second World War, the four Evangelical Lutheran (colloquially old Lutheran ) parishes existed in Wroclaw :

  • Breslau-Süd with the Christ Church, Hohenzollernstrasse 55
  • Breslau-Nord with the Katharinenkirche , Katharinenstraße 17, and the parish hall, Forckenbeckstraße 7
  • Breslau-West with a church building site, but without a church; The services took place in a school.
  • Wroclaw goldsmiths with church and spacious rectory

In the south of the city there was a four- acre cemetery with an administrator's apartment on Menzelstrasse.

Building description

The old Lutheran church owned the three contiguous pieces of land at Hohenzollernstrasse 53 to 57 with about 10,000 m², in the middle of which (house number 55) was the Christ Church. It was built from red brick according to a design by the Berlin architect Jürgen Kröger , who, as a renowned church architect, also designed the Luther Church (1892–1894) and the Church of the Redeemer (1901–1904) in Breslau. The meeting room with library and archive was located above the church interior of the Christ Church. The deaconess station was located in the same part of the building. The theological seminar also belonged to the building complex, where the theological training of the Old Lutheran students took place alongside their studies at the university .

There was a square in front of the church and a parish garden behind the building complex. The rectory with three apartments on three floors and a seminar room with a library for theology students on the third floor were located in the building at Hohenzollernstrasse 57. The building at Hohenzollernstrasse 53 was also three-story and was inhabited by officials and employees of the church. In addition, the church rented the apartments in the three-story apartment building at Hohenzollernstrasse 71, which also belongs to it.
