Christ Church Schliersee (2009)

The Christ Church in Schliersee is one of the church buildings of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Neuhaus (am Schliersee), which is located in the Schliersee district of Neuhaus . The building was built in 1954 according to plans by the architect Olaf Andreas Gulbransson (1916–1961). It has been on the list of monuments since 2002 (No. D-1-82-131-78).

Location and architecture

The Christ Church is located at Leitnerstrasse 2 on a gently sloping site. The floor plan is an irregular octagon, which arises from an equilateral hexagon, on the southwest side of which a small trapezoid is attached. This results in the interesting geometric property that all diagonals in the octagon intersect at a point near the trapezoid. Here is the altar. There are additions for the sacristy , main and side entrance on three of the hexagonal sides .

In the corner points of the trapezoid rise two buttresses, in the space between which two bells are hung and above which a short tower rises, which is crowned by an onion dome according to traditional local construction . There is also access to the community hall, which is located in the basement of the building, between the pillars . This has a number of windows, in contrast, the church interior is only equipped with a few ornamental glass block windows.

The surfaces of the tent-like, dark tin roof converge at the highest point of the building in a glass point. This is the only natural source of light in the room and is located directly above the altar.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is simple and designed by the architect. The altar made of green basalt stands decentrally on a round two-tiered pedestal, to the left of which the chalice-shaped baptismal font and to the right the free-standing ambo , symbolically connected by the pattern of the floor tiles.

A larger than life crucifix made of brass and copper sheet hangs above the altar and is surrounded by a steel ring. The hands of the crucified one protrude from the steel ring, both blessing and inviting. The crucifix was initially only intended as a temporary solution by the architect, but was retained by the community after some hesitation.

The ceiling of the church is dominated by the mighty visible wooden roof trusses . The organ, built in 1971 by Gerhard Schmid from Kaufbeuren , is located above the entrance to the sacristy.

history

In the Catholic-dominated area around Schliersee, Protestant Christians did not come together for church services until the 1920s, initially in the town hall. In 1926 a church building association was founded and property on Leitnerstrasse was acquired. A design by the Munich architect Fritz Norkauer (1887–1976) was not implemented because of the Second World War .

The latter won a limited competition in 1953 , organized with the architects Otto Grimm, Bruno Biehler and Olaf Andreas Gulbransson. Olaf Andreas Gulbransson was the son of the Norwegian painter, graphic artist and caricaturist Olaf Gulbransson (1873-1958) and his wife, the writer Grete Gulbransson (1882-1934). The Schliersee church building was Gulbransson's second, but the first in the tent shape typical of him.

The foundation stone of the church was laid on October 18, 1953, and it was consecrated on June 20, 1954. In 1970, 1986, 1990/92 and 2011 renovations were carried out while largely maintaining the original appearance.
