from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles Gordon "Chuck" Blazer (born April 26, 1945 in Queens , New York City , † July 12, 2017 in New Jersey ) was an American football official .

Blazer was General Secretary of CONCACAF until 2011 and a member of the FIFA Executive Committee from 1996 to 2013 .

In April 2013 he waived re-election after allegations of corruption. At the beginning of May 2013, the FIFA Ethics Committee banned him for 90 days from any activities in national and international football due to an ongoing investigation. June 2015 it became known that Blazer had admitted to US investigative authorities that he was accepting bribes. In July 2015, the FIFA Ethics Committee banned Blazers for life.

Espionage

Blazer had led the North, Central American and Caribbean football confederation CONCACAF for two decades with the Caribbean football official Jack Austin Warner, who was involved in many scandals, and diverted millions of dollars for himself. At this time he was nicknamed "Mister 10 percent", which corresponded to the proportion that he skimmed off for himself privately.

When the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) investigated him for embezzlement of large amounts in 2011 , he agreed to spy on his colleagues, customers and business partners. Among other things, he recorded confidential discussions in the applications for the 2018 and 2022 World Championships .
