Chuck Norris Facts (German: Facts about Chuck Norris ), also known as Chuck Norris jokes in the German-speaking world , are an Internet phenomenon and part of network culture . These "facts" refer to the American martial artist and actor Chuck Norris . They exaggerate and satirize the harshness, strength, masculinity and abilities of the characters portrayed by Chuck Norris.

background

The first Chuck Norris jokes appeared on IRC and various Internet forums in early 2005 . Conan O'Brien's jokes about Chuck Norris on his late night show - which mostly related to his lead role in Walker, Texas Ranger - are seen as the inspiration for this appearance. Chuck Norris Facts finally became popular in summer 2005 through the Chuck Norris Fact Generator , which was preceded by less successful collections of alleged facts about Vin Diesel and Bob Saget .

In the meantime, more "facts" followed about other actors and the television series protagonist Jack Bauer . In India, similar jokes are common as Rajinikanth facts or Rajinikanth jokes about the actor Rajinikanth and are often derived from Chuck Norris jokes. Examples in Germany are the “facts” about the soccer player Hans Sarpei , which were mainly spread via the social network Facebook .

Reactions from Chuck Norris

Chuck Norris himself was surprised and flattered by the attention on his own website. Although he said that he found some of these "facts" amusing, he tried not to take them seriously and hoped it would bring more people to the real facts. In his first internet column in October 2006, he added further aspects: He refused to be compared to God. God created man in his own image, the theory of evolution is not true. In late 2006, Norris made a commercial for Mountain Dew based on these "facts". In the pre-election campaign of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee for the position of Republican presidential candidate for the 2008 election , Norris appeared in several campaign spots called "HuckChuckFacts", in which well-known "facts" are used to advertise Huckabee. While Norris gives arguments for choosing Huckabees, Huckabee gives well-known Chuck Norris facts.
